After a good start to the season we were up against a team who had got the better of us a few times, although never finished above us in the league. They are indeed our Southampton to Manchester United if you will - a bogey side. Unsurprisingly the game was tight. We had the better of the first half, but our commitment to the 50:50 challenges was lacking the usual passion that we are known for, meaning that the first half ended goalless.
The second half started with the young Mr Bartlett – last seasons Players’ player of the year – throwing the ball out to their striker and prolific goal scorer, not once but twice with reckless abandon, he is unlikely to retain his award it must be said, luckily we weathered the storm and managed to sneak a pretty nice goal from young Ed Gray. A great finish and what we needed. Our defence held firm and we ended the game as 1:0 victors. A great victory but not a great game.
We are still sitting pretty at the top of the table with 4 wins from 4 but need to improve our fitness if we are to win this league.
