After the heroics of the EFG-lite team two weeks ago, the big boys were back last night and put paid to Rule One with a 6-2 victory on what can be said to have been not the most beautiful evening weather-wise.
After most players arrived by bike, we were already soaked to the skin before even kicking a ball so weren’t particularly enamoured with the 10 minute delay that was enforced as the opposition turned up late. I would like to say that this allowed us time to adapt to the conditions and come out of the traps all guns blazing, but it seems we couldn’t be bothered for most of the first half and struggled to be level at 2-2 at the break.
Much better start to the second half as Going Down exerted their superior skill and fitness (cough) with early shots peppering the goal including one which hit both posts and went (at least) 2 yards over the goal line but was not ignored by the ref.
Ed’s tactic of never passing (ever) started to pay off soon after as he shinned in his second goal of the game with his 873rd shot of the evening before an Andy Costin side foot special put us 4-2 up and in complete control. The big man wasn’t finished there and scored his second soon after following a dainty pirouette and another pea roller into the corner.
Going Down were now thoroughly in control and finished the game off in style with the sixth (and easily the best) goal of the match with the last kick.
Going Down are now 6 points behind the leaders – Super Hans – but with two games in hand so everything is still in our hands.
Well done to all for turning up in the world’s worst conditions.
MOTM: Mr. Andrew Darren Costin.
